The Upper West Side, or UWS for short, consists of two ultra desirable hotspots not far from each other: Lincoln center and 72nd Street.
Near the park are beautiful, historic buildings with charm. Ideal for those who want to maximize their time in the city with ease of transportation and time at the park. On the west, near the water, are newer buildings with more garage spaces and quicker access to the highway for those coming in and out of the city. But don’t be concerned about walking on foot either as it is just a 12 min walk from the river to Central Park and access to the Hudson River walkway make it recreationally friendly as well.
Lincoln center is ideal for performers and those who spend time at the opera, symphony, and ballet. Surrounded by popular restaurants such as The Smith, Bar Baloud, and PJ Clark’s, it is also steps away from Columbus Circle where several trains intersect.
My favorite residential complex is down here, but you’ll have to ask me personally which one it is!
72nd street, while further from the hustle and bustle of downtown, has everything a person could need when living in the city: a plethora of gyms such as Orange Theory and Barry’s, grocery stores such as Trader Joe’s and Fairway, local restaurants such as Harvest Kitchen and Angaar. And if you are a cyclist in the city, it is wonderful to have dedicated bike lanes running the entire length of Central Park west, Columbus avenue, and Amsterdam avenue.
The Upper West Side is littered with gorgeous townhomes and co-ops, with new condos starting to pop up over time. If you are looking at a coop, make sure you have an experienced agent (like those on the McHale & Atlas Team) on your side to guide you through the daunting board application process!
